Takashi Murakami is one of the most iconic artists alive today. Born in Tokyo in 1962, he was trained in the classical Nihonga technique before going on to create his own unique style dubbed ‘Superflat’. Murakami is the leading figure in contemporary Japanese art and has been referred to as the Andy Warhol of Japan.

Represented by internationally recognised galleries, Murakami’s works are included in top museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Guggenheim and many more.

    ABOUT ARTWORK

An Homage to Monopink 1960 B features the artist’s signature smiling flowers in a burst of bright colour and energy. Murakami carefully balances apparent dichotomies between joy and terror, structure and chaos, arranging overlapping flowers in a kaleidoscopic mindscape.
